Analysis of NME magazine front cover
This magazine was not long released as being free. The
masthead of NME really stands out in this front cover; this is because of the
colour scheme that the producer has used. The pink with the black background
really stands out. The font of the mast head is really thick and easy to read.
Also, underneath the masthead we can see a little subtitle saying ‘New Musical
Express’, this means that they have only just released this magazine, and
inside there is more music than anything else.
The
main image on the magazine is of a famous music artist ‘Rihanna’, when the
magazine was firstly published as free she was the first one to be the main
image of it, this shows that the magazine is all about the music industry, but
when the magazine was published for free they added more things into it like
films, gaming and other forms of technology that they can talk about.
The main colour scheme that they have used is a form of
black and pink and then on the bottom of the main image a little bit of blue.
This means that all of the things in pink are more important than the things in
black this is because they are more noticeable and they stand out more on the
front page of this magazine, if this NME didn’t use a colour scheme then it
would look dreadful because everything would either be all the same colour or
just random colours.
The subsidiary images they have used are of a bird over the
top of Rihanna’s shoulder this makes it more noticeable, also, the sell lines
that they use stand out because they are in the dark colour but have a white
background, this means that the colours will stand out and catch peoples eye
when they are looking for a magazine. The font of the sell lines is small this
is because when you look around the magazine the last thing you will look at is
the small sell lines, also, sometimes the first thing someone looks for on a
magazine is the sell lines , this is because if they don’t they won’t know what
there is to read inside.
The barcode on the bottom right is really effective because
it doesn’t spoil the image in any way, its right on the edge of the page which
means that if you have finished looking at all of the interesting sell lines
and pugs of the magazine you will then look here to see how much you have to
pay. It does interact a bit with the bottom of the main image but that doesn’t
matter I think that it makes it more effective.
You have identified the key features of the cover and you are beginning to use technical terms appropriately. Remember to think about how the cover appeals to the audience.
